These skills form the basis of most bookmaking. You will be introduced to specialist tools as well as simpler homemade devices. Just bring your creativity, curiosity and passion. You will complete several projects: • a single section stitched printed booklet, the NSW Guild’s publication ‘The Alchemy of Bookbinding’ • a single section booklet of notes outlining the binding projects • a hard cover single section cased-in binding • a concertina album • a multi section French-stitched notebook with sewn on cover and exposed spine. All materials are provided by the NSW Guild, including coloured and decorative papers are provided for making your books. You may wish to bring an apron. A beginners toolkit is available for optional purchase at a discounted rate. Closed-in shoes must be worn as an OHS requirement. For ages 18+ Completion of ‘Level 1: Bookbinding for beginners’ will ensure you learn the skills to take your bookbinding to the next level, whatever your area of interest, whether it be repairing old books, binding original artwork, making notebooks or just enjoying a new skill.
